Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the Team and will be expected to work autonomously, managing a caseload of children with significant global developmental delay, social communication difficulties and children with a learning disability and associated health needs. These children may present with a range of behaviours that challenge or developmental needs and you will be involved in providing assessments, interventions and support to the children and their families. The post holder will also contribute to diagnostic assessment of children with Autism and ADHD. These interventions are delivered through individual 1:1 work in the clinic setting, at the childs home or in community settings. Group work can also be utilised when Covid 19 restrictions allow.

An excellent understanding of the issues young people with Learning disabilities may experience is essential for this post as is a good understanding of Positive Behaviour Support, Child development, intervention techniques such as Makaton, visual aids and there is a need for the post holder to be familiar with the Childrens Continuing Care process.

Service development is also an active part of the role.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NMC Registered LD Nurse or registered nurse with relevant post registration experience
  • Post graduate diploma (or equivalent level of study in specialist areas of the learning disability service).
  • Desirable criteria

  • Any additional relevant formal training within the area of childrens disabilities or CAMHs
  • EXPERIENCE

    Essential criteria

  • Significant post registration experience in a relevant role
  • Management of support staff

  • Experience working with children with disabilities and their carers / families
