The role of midwifery Clinical Placement Facilitator is to lead the education and development of all student midwives and support practice supervisors and practice assessors (PA/PS) within the maternity unit. The individual will work collaboratively with the Practice Development Midwives and the Senior Midwifery Team to ensure clinical teaching is of the highest standard.

Main duties of the job

The post holder must be an effective communicator able to confidently deliver lectures/presentations at local level. The post holder will need to have effective organisational and management skills to facilitate the needs of various student groups in practice. 

You will co-ordinate and facilitate the educational activities of individual pre and post registration students and return to practice (RTP) midwives, by working in partnership with the HEIs to promote evidenced based learning in the development of midwifery practice.

To provide and assure a safe and effective clinical placement for midwifery 
students which takes into account clinical capacity and PA/PS support issues.

To be proactive in the processes to support Maternity Support 
Workers onto the Midwifery Secondment programmes working closely with theMatrons, DoM and Lead Nurse for Education.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered Midwife
  • First Degree or equivalent advanced study
  • 997/998 course or SSSA Course
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Masters or equivalent experience and knowledge
  • Desirable criteria

  • Practice Teacher / teaching qualification/willing to work towards qualification
  • Skills/ Abilities

    Essential criteria

  • Substantive experience of working as a midwife in clinical practice
  • Senior Midwifery experience at a band 7 or above.
  • Currently clinically based.
  • Excellent clinical teaching and assessing skills.
  • Evidence of managing a team of midwives and taking a lead in multi professional work
  • Experience facilitating training and teaching sessions
  • Risk management and quality assurance experience
  • Experience of auditing and reviewing midwifery practice.

    Essential criteria

  • Thorough knowledge of Midwifery Practice.
  • Excellent theoretical knowledge with the ability to apply theory to practice.

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
  • Desirable criteria

  • Clinical audit and service evaluation
