Main duties of the job

The purpose of the role is to support the provision of a comprehensive 
information service by providing expert advice and analysis across a range of areas. The post holder will be responsible for leading a range of projects and initiatives across a number of areas, using their considerable expertise to advise the organisation on specialist information issues.

The post holder will be responsible for leading the identification of new 
opportunities within their relevant area; and liaising with senior managers 
across the organisation to communicate how various information 
developments can support the delivery of more effective patient care.
The post holder will represent the department across a range of 
organisational projects, and will be the information expert on these groups, 
ensuring that the decision making process is supported by the timely provision of information and analysis. 

The post holder will lead the review of departmental processes, ensuring that they continue to evolve in the most effective and efficient manner, and remain at the forefront of technological and analytical advancements.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that CPGs and corporate 
departments receive a regular suite of reports on a timely basis and ensure that these are reviewed and audited on a regular basis.

Develop and extend the use of the Data Warehouse and the cubes, ensuring that a full range of regular reports are produced to meet the organisations information requirements.

Ensure that the department has a robust and effective publishing plan, which ensures that key information reports are published in the appropriate areas on SharePoint and are suitably publicised to ensure all staff are aware of their existence.

Develop new techniques for the manipulation of raw data, ensuring that large datasets with hundreds of thousands of records, are presented in a format suitable to a variety of audiences.

The post holder will lead discrete pieces of work around information standards and data definitional issues, ensuring the organisation has a greater understanding of the numerous national requirements.

The post holder will oversee the operational implementation of the Health Boards data quality policy, ensuring its contents are adhered to.

The post holder will instigate a series of data quality checks and audits, providing the organisation with an assurance framework for the accurate reporting of its data.

Advise on appropriate data capture methodologies to ensure the integrity of data collection, and the safe transfer and transmittance of data.

  • Membership of an Informatics professional body (e.g. British Computer Society or UKCHIP)
