Main duties of the job
The team is well established with this post being a replacement Band 7 post because the current post holder is retiring. They will join another Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), a Band 4 Pathway Coordinator and a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner. There are 5 Consultant Physicians with interests in lung cancer and malignant pleural disease and we have long established services for thoracoscopy, linear and radial EBUS and ambulatory pleural services including TIPC. The CNS team in Wrexham is involved in all arms of the service and not just the diagnostic pathway, thus truly accompanying the patient through all aspects of their journey with lung cancer. This includes attendance at and support for on-site thoracic surgical clinics with a surgeon from Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, and on site oncological clinics working with three oncologists. There is a chemotherapy unit in the hospital with its own dedicated staff. There is an additional nurse led follow-up service. We work closely with research nurses on relevant clinical studies and trials.
The post holder will be required to have the ability to use computer systems for data entry, spreadsheets and databases, checking of patients records, emailing, preparing teaching packages and documentation. You will be actively encouraged to develop both professionally and personally.Â
