Main duties of the job

  • To undertake the duties of a Registered Learning Disability Nurse/ Behaviour Analyst, providing high quality care including descriptive functional assessment and multi-element intervention of adults with learning disability and behaviour that challenges within Inpatient services.
  • The Behaviour Analyst to work in collaboration with other members of the IPCT to provide support and guidance to colleagues and undertake referral evaluations around the core areas of practice of challenging behaviour, mental health, forensic issues and PMLD.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of Clinical Governance strategies such as clinical pathways through taking an active role in one or more of the Clinical Effectiveness Groups.
  • To work closely with service users, carers and service professionals from the Inpatient service and CLDT to reduce challenging behaviour, improve quality of life and strengthen placement stability of service users. This will be achieved by following the referral pathway.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    Support and mentoring to members of the Inpatient Service

    The production of detailed functional assessment reports when required

    The development, dissemination and implementation of multi-element intervention plans in conjunction with the Inpatient Service and CLDT

    The monitoring of progress through data collection and analysis

    To work in collaboration with CNS and CLDT to ensure effective discharge to the community and robust monitoring and review post discharge.

    To contribute to the development of Learning Disability Inpatients service initiatives regarding standards of care, clinical risk management, clinical audit and research, taking part in subsequent change process.

    The development of Behavioural Support Plans to effectively manage incidents of challenging behaviour, including environmental manipulations, risk management and reactive strategies.

    The support of staff teams in the implementation of the Active Support Model through formal structured teaching sessions and onsite training.

    Assist colleagues working in the Learning Disability Service and other agencies by providing advice, guidance and support on matters related to challenging behaviour.

    Promote service development by contributing to the formulation, implementation and evaluation of special projects.
