We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and highly experienced Registered Nurse to further develop their management and leadership skills on Thomas Audley ward.

Thomas Audley ward is a busy 27 bedded Surgical ward specializing in emergency general surgery. The successful candidate will need to be able to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team demonstrating excellent interpersonal and clinical skills.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

  • To act as deputy to the sister/charge nurse in their absence.
  • To support the sister/charge nurse in the day-to-day running of the ward and in achieving team objectives.
  • In conjunction with the sister/charge nurse, to ensure that nursing practice within the ward is of high standard, evidence based and clinically effective.
  • To act as a team leader for a given group of nurses within the ward.
  • To develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with professional colleagues
  • To assist the sister/charge nurse in monitoring workload within the ward ensuring that resources are adequate to provide a safe standard and maintain quality of care.
  • To provide clinical and professional leadership.
  • To ensure that all Trust and professional policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • To ensure that all Health and Safety policies are adhered to within the ward/dept.

    Education / Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse
  • Preparation for Mentorship course (or ability to complete)
  • Relevant post registration specialist course or significant relevant experience
  • Desirable criteria

  • Leadership training
  • Skills/ Abilities

    Essential criteria

  • Ability to effectively function as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to assess patients; develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care.
  • Ability act as a clinical leader
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Substantive (recent) nursing experience as a Band 5 staff nurse in an acute setting.
  • Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
  • A level of nursing knowledge consistent with required post registration experience and continued learning.
  • NMC Code of Conduct.
