An opportunity has arisen for a full time Highly Specialist Therapy Assistant to join the Surgical Rehabilitation Team. The Surgical Rehabilitation Team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Therapy Assistants. As a part of the team the therapy assistant independently assesses patients, carries a caseload as well supporting the physiotherapist and occupational therapists.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job role include assessment and treatment of patients who have surgery at Homerton Hospital, which could be planned surgery, or an emergency following an accident or illness. The types of conditions patients have includes orthopaedic, such as joint replacements or hip fracture, and general surgery. You will need to work flexibly with a range of adults, many of them older, to enable them to achieve independence. This will require clear communication skills and a proactive problem-solving approach.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to levels A-C in GCSE or equivalent English, Science, Maths
  • Educated to A level or Degree level or equivalent skills acquired through experience
  • Desirable criteria

  • Care certificate
  • Qualification in relevant field of health care or rehabilitation
  • Skills / Abilities

    Essential criteria

  • Able to communicate clearly in English (verbally and written)
  • Able to use own initiative and to problem solve
  • Physically capable of moving and handling patients
  • IT skills for data entry
  • Experience

  • Experience working in a healthcare or rehabilitation setting
  • Working with older people and/or people with an illness or disability
