The Trust is seeking to recruit a deputy to support the Head of Legal Services in a small team of two. The role requires the deputy to work closely with other key stakeholders within the Trust both at an Exec level but also with all other departments and divisions. 

The main role will be managing clinical negligence claims and working with panel, NHSR and clinicians to achieve a good outcome for the trust. The Trust and the department are virtually paperless therefore, there is limited administrative work to be done. 

The Deputy will also assist the Head of Legal Services to manage some straightforward inquests by obtaining reports and liaising with the coroner. If experience allows, the deputy can support the Head of Legal at meetings relating to (child protection/adult safeguarding/general advisory).

Main duties of the job

The department is well established within the Trust with excellent working relationships with all key stakeholders. This role is a good opportunity for someone wanting to gain more experience outside of day to day claims management and progress to more complex healthcare law work.

Key duties: 

  • Under the supervision of the Head of Legal Services, to co-ordinate the defence of all clinical negligence claims against the Trust.
  • Management of claims and inquests along with the requirement to provide legal advice to staff at the trust on various medico-legal concerns.
  • Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury Claims Management in line with panel and NHS Resolution parameters
  • Ad hoc advisory service relating to healthcare queries
  • Training on legal matters within the trust
