Job overview
This is a new full-time post and a joint appointment by Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (HUH). The Trust is looking to appoint a Consultant in Neurology with special interests in movement disorder with a commitment to high quality patient care, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets, and excellence in education/training.
Main duties of the job
The post will be 6 PAs based on site at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This post has been developed due to increasing demand of neurological services and is aimed at maintaining and developing excellence in neurological services in the North East London locality.Â
Working for our organisation
Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified physicians for the post of Consultant in Neurology. The successful candidate will hold MRCP(UK), or equivalent, and be within 6 months of possession of the CCST/CCT in Neurology. The appointment is subject to the terms and conditions of the new NHS Consultant Contract.

Essential criteria
Understanding of principles and application of clinical research

Relevant research experience Publication of peer reviewed papers
Professional Qualifications
Essential criteria
Full registration with the General Medical Council and acceptance on the GMC Specialist Register MRCP(UK) or an equivalent qualification. CCST in Neurology or within 6 months of accreditation
Desirable criteria
PhD or MD or equivalent specialist training
Relevant Experience
Essential criteria
Appropriate training in general medicine and clinical neurology Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent). Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of neurological disorders Clinical expertise in movement disorder, particularly prescribing and governance around disease-modifying treatment prescribing
Desirable criteria
Demonstrates breadth of experience and awareness in and outside specialty
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
Competence across whole UK neurological curriculum. Demonstrable ability to run an effective clinical service for people with particularly movement disorders Demonstrate an ability to implement treatment plans involving disease-modifying treatments for patients with movement disorders
Desirable criteria
Demonstrate an ability to identify and organise the specific clinical investigations and onward referrals relevant to the post
Leadership and Professionalism
Essential criteria
Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and respond appropriately to service need
Desirable criteria
Familiar with current structure of the health service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
Management Skills (inc Clinical Governance)
Essential criteria
Awareness of the overall business environment in which the hospitals operate Understanding of the importance of good clinical coding Evidence of having worked and being able to communicate within an Interdisciplinary / multispecialty service with appropriate levels of communication through direct discussions with team members, MDT meetings, and presentations to the team Involvement in and understanding of the Clinical Governance Experience of audit and willingness to institute audit exercises.
Desirable criteria
Management of team or programme or project Evidence of being able to engage and communicate at a National and International level Able to engage and work with management as appropriate for a consultant that wishes to become an active member of the Trust
Teaching & Training
Essential criteria
Ability and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate doctors in training. Proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research, leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals Understanding of and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context. Knowledge of Research ethics and committed to incorporating the highest standards of research governance.
Desirable criteria
Experience of educational supervision, Teaching on formal educational courses. Evidence of organisational ability: e.g. organising and directing courses, educational programmes etc.
