Main duties of the job

The Psychiatric Liaison Team provides an assessment service to the District General Hospital (D.G.H) and Emergency Department (E.D) for people who present following episodes of self harm, suicide attempts and other mental health related issues.

The post holder will provide comprehensive mental health assessments, signposting and follow-up arrangements.

The post holder will triage individuals accessing the E.D for mental health issues and illnesses; assess risk and prioritise intervention and assessment to facilitate the appropriate timely response. This has significant benefits for patients presenting to the ED by reducing waiting times, streamlining transition through the department and improving follow-up. In order the support this process the post holder will have excellent knowledge of primary and secondary mental health and substance misuse services as well as community and tertiary services. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Knowledge of mental health issues relating to self harm
  • knowledge and understanding of assessing and managing patients with suspected cognitive impairment.

  • Experience at Band 5 or band 6 in adult mental health care.
  • good knowledge of evidence based assessment tools
