Senior Clinical Embryologist

Permanent full time – 37.5 hours

The Homerton Fertility Centre is looking for a highly skilled and enthusiastic HCPC registered Senior Clinical Embryologist to join the IVF laboratory team at Homerton University NHS Foundation Trust.

The Homerton Fertility Centre offers a comprehensive range of assisted conception services to a diverse population from across East Central London and performs approximately 900 fresh IVF/ICSI cycles and 600 FERs annually.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive team, and to contribute to the development and improvement of the Homerton Fertility Centre, which is under new management. The successful candidate must be personable with excellent communication skills and motivated to help make the Homerton Fertility Centre highly successful.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

  • To create a positive working environment as well as motivate and encourage other members of staff
  • To commit to effective communication and cooperation within the laboratory team and other functional areas
  • To communicate effectively and politely with patients and ensure information provided is correct
  • To obtain patient consent as required by regulation
  • To participate in meetings for the embryology staff and clinic wide meetings, including patient events and webinars

    Education / Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • Degree in biological sciences
  • MSc In Reproductive Science or science
  • ACE Post Graduate Certificate/Diploma in Embryology/ STP/ESHRE Certificate or equivalent.
  • HCPC registered Clinical Scientist
  • Desirable criteria

  • Formal Quality Management Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Management qualification or equivalent
  • Skills/ Abilities

    Essential criteria

  • Excellent communication skills, including good verbal and written English language skills
  • Ability to understand the needs of the other functional areas of the clinic
  • Ability to implement new methodology
  • Ability to foster good working relationships within the embryology team and between other members of the Fertility team, both clinical and non-clinical
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Substantial clinical embryology experience
  • Post HCPC registration experience
  • Experience of quality management in the IVF laboratory
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of lecturing and tutoring.
  • Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
  • A solid knowledge of the HFEA Code of Practice.
  • An excellent understanding of the scientific basis of embryology and embryo culture
  • Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of current issues in IVF and assisted conception treatment
