Main duties of the job

The post holder will, following formal training / clinical supervision, be able to demonstrate advanced and specialist nursing practice in holistic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for emergency / elective patients accessing adult mental health services and their families, according to changing health care needs. This will necessitate high levels of autonomy and advocacy e.g. Nurse Led Clinics, undertake clinical ward rounds alongside the medical team, receiving direct referrals, following appropriate training / clinical supervision.

The post holder will, following formal training / clinical supervision, perform a comprehensive patient problem focused health history, physical examination, analyses and interprets history, presenting symptoms, physical findings and diagnostic information to develop differential diagnosis within specialist area. Following formal sign off, the ANP will be able to request appropriate clinical investigations ( including where appropriate Chest X-ray / Ultrasound, following IRMER guidance) ensuring that the patients clinical results are reviewed by the respective Consultant / Clinical team and followed up appropriately.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work within the agreed Policies and procedures of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and to work within the Professional Code of Conduct of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Undertake holistic assessments of individual needs of patients with mental health problems and provide expert clinical and decision making skills in all aspects of the patient pathway 

Where appropriate the post holder will work collaboratively with the MHLD MDTs to develop a high quality, sustainable service in accordance with Local and National guidelines.

Participate in the clinical audit cycle; contribute to the Health Board clinical governance agenda identifying quality and professional issues relating to surgical services.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse Part 1,2,12
  • First degree in nursing / equivalent level of training
  • Evidence of Masters degree or via a current portfolio.
  • Experience of relevant teaching / assessment programme

  • Knowledge of key professional issues, and NMC guidelines and codes, relating to professional practice
