Main duties of the job

The post holder works within the medical directorate providing clinical nurse specialist support for Hepatology patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis as part of the Gastroenterology team for the BCUHB (West). This is a clinical role, the job plan focus is to support patients with chronic liver disease irrespective of aetiology working towards autonomous clinical practise, ensuring optimisation of health within agreed protocols and guidelines.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering nursing care and support to patients with compensated and decompensated liver disease supporting services within the acute and community care settings providing board and comprehensive support to the lead nurse and the Clinical Lead for gastroenterology services

Working towards advanced practice the post holder will be expected to develop their skills autonomously to act as a source of clinical expertise and knowledge to other professional both internal and external to the organisation providing support as a clinical nurse specialist developing skill and knowledge in the field of Hepatology which reflects local policies and national guidance in according with National Institute of Clinical Excellence, British Society of Gastroenterology, British association for the study of the liver and the Welsh Association of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy.

Working within the team to provide support to the lead nurse to deliver service by providing a high standard of patient care using evidenced based principles/current best practice to assess, plan implement and evaluate interventions.

Essential criteria

  • RN
  • substantial experience working in Gastroenterology or Heptoplogy service
  • Desirable criteria

  • Awareness of Liver delivery plan for Wales
  • Achieved or working towards Masters in advanced Clinical Practice
  • Experience in a Specialist Nurse Role at Band 6
  • Experience
