Main duties of the job

The Head of Innovation and Analytics will provide strategic direction to the Health Board on the development, deployment and use of automated reporting solutions, healthcare analytics and actionable intelligence (AI). The post holder will provide the executive management team and senior transformation team, related to insight into corporate and clinical service performance. In addition they will work closely with members of the executive team, transformation team and senior clinical leaders to support them in understanding strategic and operational business opportunities and problems, providing them with analytical support to improve the quality of scenario planning, options appraisal and decision-making.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Developing the Health Boards analytical capacity and capability to help identify opportunities for improvement, mitigate risks and issues and support high quality decision-making
  • Develop a pipeline of new opportunities based on national/international best practice and innovation
  • Leveraging predictive analytics and artificial intelligence to identify insights into areas of potential performance improvement
  • Utilising integrated health and care records to develop strategies and approaches to support population health management
  • Establishing the analytical capability to support the Health Boards approach to delivering value-based care and reducing unwarranted variation (working closely with system partners)
  • The management of a small team of transformation analysts. Acting in a direction setting capacity, monitoring performance, supporting development and contributing to annual appraisals.
  • Develop outstanding relationships with senior leaders and clinical staff, working with them to increase understanding of strategic and operational issues and opportunities. Produce information that will support the strategic decision-making of senior leaders across the organisation.
  • Proactively determine and recommend to senior management where to improve performance based on insights derived from data, whether that is from predicting trends or finding new opportunities.
  • Develop analytical, data modelling, predictive analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities to improve problem/opportunity diagnosis and to support the development of organisational insights and robust plans.

    Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level in an IT-related subject or equivalent training/experience
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development
  • Extensive experience of project and programme management techniques and tools such as Prince 2 and Managing Successful Projects PRINCE II Foundation Level Certification (or Higher) Experience of Project Management within NHS services
  • Significant experience of working in a project environment or system management role
  • Desirable criteria

  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist SQL server 2008 (MCTS)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert/Developer (MCSE/MCSD)

  • Significant experience of working in a Senior Management role in the NHS
  • Proven track record of co -ordinating department and project budgets, monitoring expenditure against target areas, assessing value for money and improving efficiency of spending
  • Experience of planning, developing and evaluating methods and processes for gathering, analysing, interpreting and presenting data and information
