Clinical Engineering Department is responsible for providing a safe & reliable range of Medical Equipment Management Service across the trust & in Community.

The post holder will manage the Medical Device Library, ensuring availability of clinical equipment. The post holder will issue the requested device to clinical staff and will collect the device after use. The post holder will carry out the cleaning and decontaminating medical device after collection from clinical area and make them available in the medical device library.

The Medical Device Library (MEL) Assistant will work collaboratively with all members of the team and/or Homerton Healthcare Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as well as different community sites, internal and external supplier to provide an accurate and effective administrative support service.

The Clinical Engineering department is responsible for providing a range of medical equipment management & governance services including full maintenance management, evaluation and selection, acceptance checks, repair, calibration, of all medical equipment within Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust & community sites.

The post holder will be based at Homerton Healthcare but you may be require to work in the community & at any of customers’ sites.

Education / Qualification

Essential criteria

  • HNC in Engineering or Educated to GCSE level or an equivalent combination of experience
  • Desirable criteria

  • Medical Engineering Qualification (Degree Level or currently studying) or relevant work experience.
  • Skills / Abilities

    Essential criteria

  • Self- directed & good interpersonal skills

  • Ability to use CE equipment database.
  • Ability to prioritise work under pressure.

  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Experience working in Clinical Engineering environment.
  • Experience of working in a clinical environment, taking account of patient safety, dignity, and infection prevention.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience in the maintenance and performance checking of clinical equipment.
  • Experience of working within a quality Management System.
  • Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
  • Knowledge of Engineering theory necessary to be able to efficiently diagnose and rectify faults on clinical equipment.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of stock control system.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, technical and quality national standards.
