BAND 6 SISTER / CHARGE NURSE Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) 

An opportunity has arisen for an Band 6 Sisters / Charge Nurses for Surgical Assessment Unit .

All applicants must be a Registered Nurse, with recent experience at Band 5 and meet the Band 6 Job Description person specification.

1 x full time post 37.5 hours

1 x part time post 30 hours

The position involves working on the Surgical Assessment Unit. SAU is a Surgical Assessment Unit and comprises of 6 triage trolleys and 7 short stay inpatient beds and accepts patients from the Emergency Department , direct from GPs, and from the Outpatient Clinics.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The Band 6 position will work with other senior registered nurses caring for emergency surgical patients and supporting the medical team with their acute assessments.

Depending on level of registered nurse experience, successful applicants will also be required to undertake mentorship of student nurses and preceptorship of newly qualified nurses whilst undertaking their placement / orientation on Surgical Assessment Unit, and ensuring that the Fundamentals of Care are maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria

  • NMC REGISTERED NURSE
  • Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake
  • Diploma in Nursing, willingness to undertake
  • Desirable criteria

  • Degree in Nursing or relevant clinical/professional subject
  • Management Qualification
  • EXPERIENCE

    Essential criteria

  • Experience within an appropriate surgical clinical area.
  • Sufficient experience at Band 5
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of undertaking audit work and standard setting
  • SKILLS

    Essential criteria

  • Evidence of good ward organizational skills
  • Effective problem solver
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate with patients and all members of the Multidisciplinary Team
  • IT skills e.g. e-mail, Word, Myrrdyn, Oracle, TPATH
  • Desirable criteria

  • Ability to adapt to and propose changes within working situation
  • Advanced clinical skills (ECG recording, Venepuncture, Phlebotomy
  • KNOWLEDGE

    Essential criteria

  • Evidence of knowledge and application of consent, data protection, patient confidentiality and risk management with Health and Safety issues.
  • Knowledge of local policies/procedures and guidelines.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of Interview and Appraisal process.
