Main duties of the job

You will act as the bridge between health services, Social Care Services, RNIB etc. To ensure the patient maintain their independence and wellbeing.

You will also be expected to raise awareness of the needs of people newly diagnosed with low vision, deteriorating vision, blindness and impending blindness.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Relevant qualification would be: rehabilitation studies, nursing, Occupational therapy of other Health & Social qualification such as optomery, significant experience of working with people with sight loss at a similar level and delivering support services at a similar level. An RNIB Clinic Support Studies qualification or a willingness to attend the course and obtain the qualification, Knowledge of social work and health services and functions of professionals within the eye health field Understanding of the need to involve service users and carers in assessing needs, accessing services and service development. To be able to influence and motivate other professional disciplines to respond appropriately to the needs of people with sight loss
  • Experience

  • Experience of person-centred planning and assessment of need Professional background e.g. rehabilitation Experience of producing written and electronic based reports Experience of empowering individuals to meet their goals Experience of supporting emotional / distressed people Experience of networking and developing meaningful partnerships Experience of working in the field of visual impairment. Sufficient experience of working in the disability field Proven presentation skills Commitment to own continuing professional development, attendance at further training and membership of peer networks
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of involving service users in services is desirable
  • To work in the UK, all candidates who are not UK or Republic of Ireland (RoI) nationals require sponsorship to obtain either a Health and Care visa or Skilled Worker visa , unless you have permission to work via another route.
