Main duties of the job

Department working hours are predominantly between 7:00am to 9.00pm, which will involve some weekend work and various shift patterns including early and late shifts as the service requires. The pay rate will increase for all hours worked on a Saturday and Sunday and Bank Holidays. 

You must have good communication skills, as you will be working within the kitchen and serving food at ward level. Candidates must be able to demonstrate ability to work flexibly and on own initiative. 

You will hold a current level 2 food hygiene certificate, or be willing to work towards this qualification. Catering experience is essential for this post.

GENERAL KITCHEN DUTIES:
1/ Cleaning all equipment, surfaces as required. 
2/ Emptying rubbish in the prescribed manner. 
3/ Storage of goods into the appropriate areas as required. 
4/ The use of floor scrubbing equipment as part of cleaning regimes. 
5/ Vegetable preparation. 
6/ Loading of meal trollies. 
7/ Distribution of items to wards as required. 
8/ Keeping of simple records as required. 
9/ Keeping of simple and more complex records as required. 
10/ Taking and recording food temperatures as required. 
11/ Reporting defective equipment. 
12/ Be responsible for lock up duties of the catering area as required 
DISHWASHING:
1/ Unloading meal trolleys and separation of crockery. 
2/ Stripping plates of waste food. 
3/ Stacking and loading of dirty crockery. 
4/ Un-loading clean crockery and storing. 
5/ Operation of the dishwasher. 
6/ Cleaning of the dishwasher after use. 
7/ Cleaning the equipment and surfaces within the dish wash area or associated 
with the dish washing function. 
8/ Changing chemicals that are used on the dish wash machines. 
9/ Recording dish wash temperatures as required. 
 PANWASHING:
1/ Use of the waste disposal. 
2/ Washing of pots and pans by hand in sinks. 
3/ Use of the pan washer or dishwasher for final cleaning only.

DINING ROOM DUTIES:
1/ The set up and clean down of the main servery. 
2/ Use of the cash register in the dining room for limited periods.

4/ Cooking of chips and grill items to order. 
5/ Label all foods as required. 
6/ Record fridge temperatures as required. 
7/ Serving of meals to the staff. 
8/ Cleaning of the dining room area that may mean the use of mechanical 
equipment. 
FOOD PREPARATION DUTIES:
1/ Preparation of salad items and vegetables and other food items that might 
include some simple cooking. 
2/ Assembly of salads and sandwiches. 
3/ Cooking of chips and grill items. 
4/ Serve food for patients following the systems at your work location, having an 
understanding of and be able to demonstrate portion size, presentation 
skills and monitor waste when required.
