Main duties of the job

  • To provide the specialist paediatric optometry service within BCUHB (East) to give expert optometric advice and the highest standard of quality care to paediatric patients.
  • To provide a high quality Optometric service for all patients referred to the Optometry service.
  • To work autonomously in the Optometry clinic. This involves work without supervision in providing diagnosis, management and treatment of patients referred.
  • To determine the clinical diagnosis and develop effective management/treatment plans where applicable.
  • To undertake detailed refraction, fundus and media checks and provision of appropriate prescription for suitable spectacles.

  • BSc (Honours) Optometry and/or MScOptometry or equivalent or working at MSc level
  • GOC Optometric Registration
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of paediatric refraction skills in a hospital setting is desirable but not essential
  • Experience

  • Post-qualification experience of paediatric refractions in clinical practice setting e.g. local optometrist practice
  • Evidence Of CPD

  • An ability to travel and carry equipment and case notes to clinics outside the Wrexham Maelor Hospital is essential.
  • To work in the UK, all candidates who are not UK or Republic of Ireland (RoI) nationals require sponsorship to obtain either a Health and Care visa or Skilled Worker visa , unless you have permission to work via another route.
