Due to investment in a second X-ray room, we are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Specialist Radiographer to join our friendly Imaging Team at Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital. Our department consists of a two well-equipped digital X-ray rooms and brand new Ultrasound and Bone Densitometry suites. The department performs a wide range of X-ray examinations from a variety of referral sources including Primary Care, Musculoskeletal services and the Minor Injury Unit on-site. We provide an X-ray and Ultrasound service for the local population and Bone Densitometry scanning for a wider population within West Sussex. There may be opportunities to develop your skills and train to perform and report DEXA scans within the department.

As a member of the team you will be helping us to provide a responsive and efficient service in keeping with our Foundation Trust vision and values. You will be able to display excellent interpersonal skills with a caring patient-centred and flexible approach to work. We are looking for full time staff (37.5 hours per week) but will accept applications from those looking for part-time hours also. Our current working hours are 8.30-5pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) but this may change in the future if Agenda for Change 7 day working is implemented.

Main duties of the job

To carry out x-ray examinations which comply with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR99) and the ionising Radiations (Medical exposure) Regulations 2017 [IR(ME)R2017], ensuring good practice in accordance with the guidelines set by the Royal College of Radiologists and the College of Radiographers.

Perform imaging examinations and care for patients during these examinations, respecting their rights of privacy and confidentially, thereby providing a high quality service to both patients and clinicians.

To be able to work independently, work within a clearly defined set of department protocols and make informed clinical decisions in the absence of a Radiologist.

To ensure patient confidentiality and data protection within the Trusts guidelines.

Undertake the quality assurance testing of equipment as part of daily routine if required

To abide by the Trusts Health and Safety Policy to ensure safe practice whilst manual and patient handling, working with radiation, hazardous chemicals, noxious fumes and bodily fluids.

To observe the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, always maintaining a safe system of work and reporting any hazards.

To report any incident involving staff, patients or visitors to the Imaging Service Manager.

To know and comply with local policies and procedures.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide a high quality imaging service reporting to the Imaging Manager.
  • To independently perform x-ray examinations organising and planning own workload.
  • Communication and Working Relationships

    To communicate with patients, clients and visitors in a polite and respectful manner reflecting their level of understanding and taking into account any barriers.

    To communicate and liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team in a polite and professional manner relating to patient management and care.

    To notify the referrer of any abnormal findings in an appropriate manner within guidelines.

    To be able to supervise the work of newly qualified staff, bank staff and assistants and to provide training where necessary to staff/students .
