Main duties of the job

  • Assist the Registered Nurse/Midwife in delivering a high standard of holistic patient care, ensuring that the patients dignity and equality is maintained at all times in line with organisational requirements
  • Act as a chaperone for patients prior to, during and following clinical procedures or examinations.
  • Following appropriate training measure patients weight/height and perform routine urine testing and recording of blood pressure/pulse/temperature reporting results to Registered Nurse/Midwife in charge.
  • Check accuracy of patient demographic details on attendance at clinic. Where changes are identified, inform the Nurse in Charge and Clinic clerk in order that records can be updated.
  • Taking accurate telephone messages. Laboratory results should always be read back to the technician who will confirm that it is correct.Being aware of the danger of divulging information to a caller and knowing when to refer the call to a senior member of staff.
  • Prepare general clinic area for receiving patients by ensuring area is generally clean and tidy assist in maintaining the standards in the clinical area and report any untidiness/clutter to the appropriate person.
  • Contribute and assist in moving and handling of individuals ensuring that organisational guidelines and policies are met
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
  • Communicate basic information to patients and their carers maintaining confidentiality, dignity and respect
