Homerton Healthcare are seeking are seeing to appoint a highly motivated and experienced senior nurse who will lead our cancer nursing strategy to ensure our patients receive high quality, empathetic and compassionate care.

Homerton is a high performing trust for cancer; we are one of the best hospitals in the country for diagnosing patients within 28 days of referral. Our clinicians prioritise cancer patients, however there is work to be done to improve patient experience before and after cancer treatment. 

You will be part of a passionate team within Cancer Services who are motivated to improve the care that our patients receive: working alongside other clinical services to improve clinical pathways, find innovative solutions and provide personalised care to patients.

This post is for a fixed term period of 12 months.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

  • You will be required to provide strong visible leadership and be clinically credible. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing the strategic direction for improving patient experience within cancer services.
  • You will provide professional leadership for nursing to support the Nursing and Midwifery strategic plan. In addition you will have strategic decision making responsibility for nursing throughout the Trust.
  • This role will involve working with a number of external stakeholders including the ICS, Cancer Alliance and Macmillan.
  • Some key areas of work you will be involved in:
  • Leading cancer nursing teams to deliver high quality, compassionate care
  • Launching a Homerton Prehabilitation Service
  • Improving Homerton’s provision of personalised care for cancer patients including increasing HNA completion and launching additional stratified follow up pathways
  • Supporting teams to improve performance in line with National Cancer Waiting Times guidance so patients are diagnosed and treated quicker.
